Hit-and-run victim remains in hospital

A Lawrence man who friends and family members said was run over by a pickup truck on Wednesday remains in the hospital.

On Friday evening, James Holder, 23, was listed in fair condition at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., a hospital official said.

Police questioned several people Wednesday evening after Holder was injured outside the Gazebo Apartments in the 2400 block of West 24th Terrace.

Witnesses said that Holder grabbed the window of a truck that drove by. The truck dragged Holder for about 25 feet until he hit the ground, rolled underneath and was run over.

Police said they questioned occupants of a pickup truck that matched witnesses description at the scene of the incident. They have made no arrests.

On Wednesday night, hours after the incident, police said the injured man was in critical but stable condition. They have not yet identified Holder as the injured man.
