Driver in deadly wreck goes back to jail

A man convicted of causing a deadly head-on wreck was sent back to jail Thursday, nearly three years after the wreck happened.

Deputies took Charley Davis, 21, to the Douglas County Jail after a brief appearance in District Court. His probation officer said Davis committed a list of violations that included failing to keep a full-time job or to do community service.

Davis was scheduled for a hearing on the allegations Thursday, but it was postponed until Nov. 14. Judge Robert Fairchild ordered Davis taken to jail in the meantime and said he would be allowed to participate in the jail’s work-release program.

Davis caused a head-on wreck Dec. 4, 2002, on U.S. Highway 40 west of Lawrence that killed Tisha Downing, a 31-year-old Eudora High School secretary. Her 6-week-old daughter survived without serious injury.

Davis was sentenced to a year in jail in April 2004 and was later released on probation.
