Teen accused of trying to rob McDonald’s
A 19-year-old Lawrence man has been charged with trying to rob a McDonald’s restaurant with a pellet gun late Tuesday night.
Prosecutors on Wednesday filed an attempted aggravated robbery charge against Jonathan P. McIntyre, 19. He was being held Wednesday night in the Douglas County Jail with bond set at $10,000.
Police said a man walked up to the drive-through window at McDonald’s, 3241 Iowa, about 10:10 p.m. Tuesday night wearing a camouflage mask, showed the gun and demanded money from an employee. The window was closed and locked, and the employee showed the man there was no money in the cash register, said Sgt. Dan Ward, a Lawrence Police spokesman.
The man demanded that the employee go get money from elsewhere in the restaurant, but the employee instead locked all doors, gathered employees in the back of the restaurant, and called 911.
The man left on foot, and a witness who was nearby followed him and saw him walk to The Reserve on West 31st Street – an apartment complex at 2511 W. 31st St. formerly known as Jefferson Commons.
Police investigated and eventually identified McIntyre, who lives in the complex, as the suspect, Ward said.
