Our town sports

¢ Firebird meeting: Free State High’s winter sports meeting for parents will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the FSHS gym. Parents of students wanting to participate in bowling, boys and girls basketball and boys swimming are encouraged to attend.

¢ LGA Medalists: Lawrence Gymnastics Academy sent participants to a meet last weekend in McPherson. In the ages 7-9 category, Haley Johnson placed first in vault, Grace Bartle was second on bars, Natalie Rainbolt was second on floor, and Jessie Abernathy placed third on beam. In age 10, Lexi Bradley placed first on vault and bars and was fourth all-around, and Molly Ryan was first on beam and floor and was second all-around. Other LGA athletes competing were Ally Clancy, Carrie Howland, Meredith Johnson, Cambry Lynch, Kirstyn Flohrschutz, Allison Williams and Kaylee Hurt.

¢ FSHS baseball: A meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the FSHS gym for ninth-grade players and parents interested in trying out for Free State baseball in the spring. Contact Mike Hill at 832-6050 for information.

¢ JGC Titlists: Todd Chapple, Clint Bradley and Neal Ezell combined for a 59 to win a Jayhawk Golf Club four-ball tournament Sunday at Alvamar. Jeff Miller, Richard Konzem, Jay Patterson and Brian Tuttle shot 60 for second place, and Mike Ordrowski, Curt Anderson, Bud Stagg and Gavin Gilchrist shot 61 for third.

¢ Former Lions: LHS products Adam Beals and Justin Riley competed for Grinnell College in the Midwest Conference Championships on Saturday in Grinnell, Iowa. Riley placed second in a time of 25:48 in the 8-kilometer race, and Beals placed 12th in 26:56. Grinnell won the team title.

¢ Armbrister fund: Lawrence Parks and Recreation still is accepting donations for the Gale Armbrister Memorial Fund. ¢ Mahaffie placers: Liz Dobbins won the women’s 50-54-year-old division Oct. 22 at the Mahaffie Half Marathon in Olathe. Molly Wood placed second. In the women’s 45-49 division, Becky McClure was second. Brian Daldorph won the men’s 45-49.

¢ Lawrence Cougars banquet: The Lawrence Cougars football team will have its banquet at 6 p.m. Friday at the 4-H Fairgrounds. Former Cougars are invited to attend.

¢ LHS meeting: Lawrence High Parents and students interested in winter sports are invited to a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in the LHS cafeteria.
