New bank to open as existing bank sold

A new bank is opening in De Soto and a familiar one is changing names and owners.

First Community Bancshares, an Overland Park-based bank holding company, recently announced plans to open a temporary loan-production office on Lexington Avenue near Golden Lane in De Soto.

The move comes as the company plans to build a full-scale FCB Bank at the two-acre site, formerly home to Dew Drop Inn and a Mexican restaurant.

First Community already operates 13 full-service branches in west-central Missouri. The company’s FCB Financial offers commercial financing and investment and insurance services.

Elsewhere in town, De Soto State Bank is changing ownership.

The owners of Great American Bank in Claycomo, Mo., are buying the De Soto bank that was founded in 1901 and had been owned by members of the Gabriel family since 1933. The bank’s name will change to Great American Bank.
