Halloween draws crowd
Roaming the streets for treats
Decked in costumes, thousands of children – young and old – roamed Massachusetts Street and Lawrence neighborhoods Monday night – Halloween – for trick-or-treating.
“Let’s see,” said Miranda Hamon, as she rummaged through her sack in downtown Lawrence. “The best thing I’ve gotten so far is probably…Laffy Taffy.”
Hamon, 11, of Kennedy School, dressed as a Renaissance princess. She walked with her parents and her sister, Mikayla Hamon, 10, of Kennedy School, who dressed as a hippie.
About a half a block away on Massachusetts Street, two 8-year-old twins from New York School were less preoccupied with candy. Lilith and Cirrus Caffrey took turns and shot Silly String onto a street sign.
Lilith wore a black and green witch costume.
“I like witches. They are cool, and they can cast spells on people,” she said.
Her sister, Cirrus, dressed as a Gothic princess.
“I like these chips we got. They are dried fruit,” she said until she remembered another treat. “Oh wait, and the bars of chocolate.”
