Bad decision

To the editor:

I moved to the Lawrence community in the early ’90s and absolutely fell in love with the people, fellow golfers and Kansas University football and basketball. Being a former professional and college player I totally embraced and bought into KU anything.

Yes, here comes the but! The university and the city of Lawrence have had a beautiful relationship for many years as I am told. However, I found it appalling the university moved the Oklahoma football game from Memorial Stadium in Lawrence to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

The university said it scheduled an additional home game to replace the Oklahoma game. So which game will take the place of the OU game? Will it be Florida Atlantic, Appalachian State or – hold onto your seat – Louisiana Tech! The answer is KU makes hundreds of thousands (of dollars); merchants of Lawrence get screwed!

And finally the NCAA committee says no to playoffs in football for years because it takes the student/athlete away from their class work. So now they scheduled an additional game (12 in all) to the regular schedule. Seems the NCAA and university presidents/chancellors/trustees decided that the class work wasn’t as important as previously thought. Obviously the NCAA and KU have a doctorate in Economics 101.

Kansas University has a responsibility to keep our money in Kansas and not in Missouri.
