Event slighted

To the editor:

I and the members of the Antique Auto Club are very disappointed that we did not receive any coverage in your paper for our recent swap meet at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. This was an event that lasted three days, brought 10,000 to 15,000 people to town, filled local motels and restaurants and provided a source of income for local 4-H clubs by operation of concession stands and the Boy Scouts by assisting with parking. Also, a great deal of the club’s proceeds go to help local charities. Apparently if an event doesn’t pertain to Kansas University or sports, it is not newsworthy.

It is not that you people did not know about this event, I received a call from one of your staff that week wanting to know when and where the event would take place. Also, one of your people came by on one of our set-up days and talked to some of the members. We had placed three large ads in the paper the week before. I would think for all good this club does for the community we might get some recognition by your paper.
