Meeting called to talk about next education leader

? State Board of Education Chairman Steve Abrams today called for a closed-door meeting of the board to review applicants for the position of education commissioner.

The meeting will be held by telephone conference call and in private at 5:30 p.m. Monday. The call will originate from the Kansas State Department of Education, 120 E. 10th.

The purpose of the meeting is to review information on individuals being considered for the commissioner’s job, according to a notice posted by the education department.

The board is not expected to take action following the closed session, the notice stated.

Current commissioner, Andy Tompkins is resigning and will join Kansas University’s faculty as an associate professor in the Education Leadership Program.

According to the education department, the names of four applicants have been forwarded to the board for further review.
