Volunteers needed for KU commencement

Interfaith Caring Neighbors is providing volunteers to work at Kansas University’s commencement ceremony. ICaN needs eight to 10 volunteers who would be available from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday to handout programs to guests and graduates. Youth groups, families and friends are welcome to work together. Immediate volunteer needs
- Lawrence Habitat for Humanity is looking for an office receptionist volunteer to greet visitors and answer phones. The Habitat office is located at 840 Conn., Suite B, and is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. To apply or for more information, contact Jean Lilley, executive director, 832-0777.
- Trinity Respite Care, an agency serving individuals of all ages with disabilities, needs volunteers for the Time Out for Parents child-care program. Volunteers will supervise and engage in activities with children ages birth through 8 years old, with and without special needs, at the Trinity Respite Care office. The program will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. two Saturdays per month. Experience is not necessary, but a short interview and orientation are required. - Operation Wildlife provides rehabilitation services to injured or orphaned wild animals, as well as wildlife education programs, and is seeking new wildlife caretaker volunteers for the main facility in Linwood, north of Eudora. New volunteer orientations will take place Wednesday and June 11, but interested persons must first complete an online volunteer application. Application forms can be accessed at www.owl-online.org. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Operation Wildlife is located at 23375 Guthrie Road, Linwood, Kansas.
- The Lawrence Arts Center is now recruiting volunteers to assist with its summer youth art education classes. Opportunities to share art skills, including ceramics, painting, photography and more, occur Monday through Thursday, mornings or afternoons, for approximately three hours. - The Perry Lake Park is always looking for individuals, groups or families who are interested in volunteering to maintain the Perry Trail, a 30-mile hiking trail. Volunteer duties can be anything from litter pickup, painting blue trail blazes on trees, pruning with lopping shears, picking up downed branches, mowing, placing signs, bridge building, trail-crossing construction and chain-sawing of larger downed trees. Interested individuals can volunteer a few hours a year or many days each month, based on their interest and availability.
