Overland Park ? Free State High’s Nick Burkart will be the city’s only representative at the Class 6A state golf meet.

Burkart shot a 78 Monday at the Overland Park Golf Course.

Free State placed fourth in the team race after posting a score of 326, and Lawrence High was sixth at 341.

“We progressively got better as year went on, which is good,” FSHS coach Jack Schreiner said. “Next year, we’ve got most of our team back, so hopefully things will get better for Free State golf.”

Levi Oxford’s 83 led the Lions.

Daniel O’Connell was a stroke back at 84.

“I was real pleased O’Connell shot his best score all year,” LHS coach Ron Commons said. “I was a little disappointed we didn’t have our best day and meet what I thought were our capabilities, but we did improve. This was our best team score for the year, so we did improve.”

Olathe Northwest led an Olathe sweep of the top three places in the team race.

Olathe Northwest shot a 301 and was followed by Olathe East (304) and Olathe South (308).

The top three teams and top five individuals not on those teams qualify for state.

The Class 6A state meet will be Monday at Carey Park in Hutchinson.
