No catastrophe

To the editor:

I have more than once thought that the Journal-World sacrifices accuracy for cleverness in its headline writing. I turned to today’s sports page (Tuesday, May 10) and was alarmed to find that something horrific had happened at Kauffman Stadium. While the headline “Kauffman catastrophe” scores high for alliteration, it hits home my point.

Free State High, given the privilege of playing baseball in a major-league stadium, lost the game. A disappointment? Of course. A catastrophe? Hardly. How about gathering some perspective and pitching such alarming language at us only when it’s accurate.
