Wrong lesson

To the editor:

I have some major concerns regarding the standards of science that may be taught in our schools if intelligent design is taught in place of evolution. First, as a mother of two children who will be entering the public school system in a year, I do not appreciate the conservative agenda that will be pressed into my children’s learning experience in our public schools. It is not right to teach a faith-based “creation of the world” myth to my children. If I choose to teach them creationism or intelligent design I will do so in my own home, where it is not imposing my will or faith on other children of other faiths.

Second, I feel that if this change is made to teach intelligent design over evolution, all Kansas children will be at a great disadvantage when it comes time to pursue higher education. Can you imagine what an admissions office would think of young adults who were not taught evolution, let alone human anatomy, zoology or microbiology? It is an unfair disadvantage to my children and every child in the state of Kansas.
