Lawrence Police said Monday that between Friday and Sunday they handled:

  • 982 calls
  • 110 reports
  • seven burglaries
  • six thefts
  • 25 noninjury accidents
  • seven injury accidents
  • Police arrested a 19-year-old Olathe man early Saturday on suspicion of choking and punching his 18-year-old girlfriend at Jefferson Commons, 2511 W. 31st St. The incident happened at 12:44 a.m.
  • A 19-year-old Free State High School student suffered a broken jaw May 3 in a fight with a 17-year-old student at the school, 4700 Overland Drive. Police arrested the 17-year-old on suspicion of aggravated battery.
  • An 18-year-old Lawrence man reported being pushed down and robbed of his wallet about 1:45 a.m. Saturday at the Westminster Inn, 2525 W. Sixth St. The wallet contained $580.
  • A 29-year-old Tonganoxie man was injured Saturday morning when an all-terrain vehicle he was driving overturned in a field at his home in the 17700 block of 190th Street. Police believe the driver, Donald F. Bruns, was intoxicated, according to a Leavenworth County Sheriff’s report. He was taken by ambulance to Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Burglaries, thefts reported

  • A 22-year-old Kansas University student fell asleep with his back door unlocked and woke up to find his 1995 Camaro stolen from his home in the 900 block of Arkansas Street. The theft happened between 12:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Thursday. The car was valued at $6,000.
  • A 24-year-old KU student’s Nissan Sentra valued at $13,000 was reported stolen between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday from the 1300 block of Louisiana Street.
  • A 22-year-old man reported his $4,000 Yamaha Raptor all-terrain vehicle stolen between 6:25 a.m. and 10 a.m. Thursday from the 3700 block of Clinton Parkway.
  • A 25-year-old Overland Park man reported a $1,700 Honda motorcycle, a 10-inch speaker and an amplifier stolen between 4:45 a.m. and 5 a.m. Saturday from the 900 block of Avalon Road.
