Identity crisis

To the editor:

This is my first letter to the editor and, wouldn’t you know, the topic is my very own identity crisis! Just to be safe, I’m sending a copy to “Dear Abby” and “Dr. Phil” to cover all the bases. Funny, I never really cared too much whether a letter to the editor contained the author’s street address. Today, I do.

My name is John Ross. I live on Lindley Drive. Currently, and to the best of my knowledge, there are four of us in Lawrence who share the name John Ross.

Just to make things a little more interesting: I am also the John Ross that offices on Yale Road. However, I am not the John Ross who lives on Yale Road. That would be my friend John S. Ross. I also am the John Ross who owns Laser Logic, but I am not the John Ross who is a junior at Free State High School. That would be my son, John Weller Ross III.

So, technically speaking, I’m not the only John Ross on Lindley Drive, nor am I the only John Ross on Yale Road. And, as of today, I’m not the only John Ross to submit a letter to the editor at the Journal-World.

For what it’s worth, I also am not the John Ross who authored “Devalued degree” (Public Forum, May 6). That John Ross would be the one residing on Randall Road.

However, quick to capitalize on a cost-saving opportunity, by way of this letter, I am requesting discounted Kansas University tuition of at least 15 percent toward my daughter’s engineering degree expenses.

John W. Ross Jr.
