Firebirds split; Lions get swept

Shawnee ? Free State outhit two opponents by nine, but the Firebirds managed just a split of a high school softball doubleheader on Thursday.

Free State allowed just one hit in a 1-0 loss to Shawnee Mission North, but outlasted SM East, 2-1, in eight innings in the second game.

Free State (10-8 overall, 5-5 Sunflower League) will play host to Lawrence High in its finale Tuesday.
