Secure borders

To the editor:

Hooray to Gov. Schwarzeneggar for speaking out on illegal immigration in California and in the United States.

While the California governor is an immigrant himself, and many Americans are the product of immigration, most of us embrace immigration as long as it’s done legally.

Cheating on this issue, or any other issue, is not the American way.

President Bush, and many members of Congress, are largely to blame for this problem. They are fearful of losing the Hispanic vote. Many of these poor people coming into the United States, except for felons, drug dealers and terrorists, are coming here in order to seek a better life.

Nonetheless, these peoples must be encouraged, and assisted, in becoming Americans legally.

According to Sen. John McCain, “We cannot successfully fight the war on terror until we secure our borders.”
