Schiavo case

To the editor:

I grow increasingly tired of people claiming that President Bush signed “Terri’s Law” for political reasons. If that were so, why are so many people against it? The fact is that the president is pro-life, he has said it over and over again. His administration has never faltered in its desire to support and sustain life. I believe that he is a man who has convictions and is living out those convictions even if they are not the popular opinion in a survey or poll.

I don’t know all of the facts about Terri Schiavo. I watch multiple news channels several hours a day and the information they purport as fact is repeatedly contradicted by each other. I agree with the president. Until the facts are all known for certain, we should save this poor woman’s life. As far as those who argue that due process has been done and the facts are known, I can only suggest to you that the Supreme Court has ruled thousands of times and found that lower courts are mistaken.

Just because a state court has ruled repeatedly one way does not mean that they have ruled correctly. The fact that the Supreme Court chose not to hear the case is not a declaration of the lower court being right; it simply means that the issue belongs in the state court. How sad that our judges have become executioners of the innocent, instead of interpreters of the Constitution.
