Report shows Carpenter leads city candidates in campaign funds

Jim Carpenter, the fifth place finisher in the March 1 Lawrence City Commission primary, has been the most successful candidate on the campaign finance trail recently, according to new reports released today.

Carpenter was the top money-raiser for the period between Feb. 18 and March 24, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Douglas County Clerk’s office. Carpenter raised $7,914 in the period, barely beating out Mike Amyx, the top vote-winner in the primary. Amyx raised $7,750.

Incumbent David Schauner, who finished third in the primary, was next with $7,236. Incumbent Sue Hack, the second-place finisher in the primary, raised $4,220. Tom Bracciano, the fourth-place finisher in the primary, raised $4,195.

On April 5, voters will choose three candidates for three at-large positions on the City Commission.
