Temporary route changes planned for ‘T’

Construction work at the intersection of Barker and Indian avenues will cause the Lawrence Transit System, the city’s public transportation service, to reroute some of its buses.

Beginning today and running through the next two weeks, the T will make a stop near the intersection of Barker and Winona avenues.

Preliminary hearing set for Eudora rape case

A preliminary hearing has been set for a former Eudora resident accused of five counts of rape, four counts of aggravated sodomy and four counts of indecent liberties.

The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. April 13.

The 41-year-old Mission Hills man was arrested last week and booked into Douglas County Jail. The Journal-World does not identify defendants in sex crime cases unless they are convicted.

The crimes allegedly were committed from November 2001 to July 2004.

Lawrence attorney Greg Robinson is representing the suspect, who continues to be held at the county jail. His bond was set at $75,000.

KU, Haskell granted support service funding

Kansas University and Haskell Indian Nations University are among the Kansas colleges and universities receiving $5 million in TRIO Student Support Services program grants.

The federal grants are awarded to higher education institutions for services that increase the retention and graduation rates of low-income students, first-generation college students and students with disabilities. The programs also help those students transfer from two-year to four-year colleges.

KU received $271,965 for 250 participants. Haskell received $235,689 for 175 participants.
