Planning process

To the editor:

I suppose almost anyone could agree with the premise of “Changes sought in planning process” (Journal-World, March 24): Our planning process could be improved. I disagree vigorously, however, with Tom Jennings when he complains of Planning Commission members “who don’t know the front end of a bulldozer form the back end.” Implied in that complaint is a commonly held notion in Lawrence and elsewhere that bulldozing is the equivalent of planning.

Look around you, at 23rd Street and 31st Street and Iowa and vicinity. Look where you will, and you will see that “development” does not equal “planning.”

Bill Mitchell,

Lawrence
