Professor to discuss women of expedition
“Women of the Expedition, York, and The Vote At The Pacific” will be presented by Paul Sivitz, a Pennsylvania professor, at 7 p.m. April 7 at Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass.
The program is part of the “Changed Lives: Lewis and Clark Meet the West” series, organized by the Missouri Humanities Council in collaboration with Humanities Councils in Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
A sign-language interpreter will be at the event. The expedition often had to depend on sign language for communication.
Sivitz teaches “On the Trail with Lewis and Clark” at Montgomery County Community College” in Blue Bell, Pa.
Film series to explore American Indians
Contemporary American Indian life will be the topic of the Lawrence Public Library’s April film series.
Four films about American Indians will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, April 8, 15 and 22 in the library, 707 Vt.,
This film series is a Read Across Lawrence 2005 event. It is free and open to the public.
Theater group to have auditions for summer
Leavenworth Players Group, a professional theater group based in Leavenworth that performs in the Kansas City area, will have auditions for two summer shows at 1 p.m. April 9 at the Leavenworth Public Library, 417 Spruce.
People auditioning are urged to bring headshots and resumes.
The shows are “Murder At Fort Leavenworth or The General Is Generally Dead” and “Murder At The Theatre or When Good Murders Happen To Bad Actors.”

Film professor to discuss film
Kansas University film professor Kevin Wilmott will be having a screening for his award-winning film, “Confederate States of America,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Woodruff Auditorium in the Kansas Union.
A question-and-answer session will be after the screening.
Baker faculty, staff to display artwork
Baldwin — An exhibit featuring items near and dear to the hearts of Baker University faculty members and staff will go on display Tuesday at Holt/Russell Gallery on the Baker campus.
“The Faculty Collects” will feature not only pieces of art, but other items collected by members of the Baker community. Items ranging from glasswork to musical instruments and even Pez candy dispensers are expected to be incorporated in the display.
More than 15 members of the Baker faculty, staff and administration have provided items for the display.
There is no admission cost for the exhibit, which will be on display from Tuesday through April 8. The Holt/Russell Gallery, housed at Parmenter Hall on the Baker campus, is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. when classes are in session.
The display will officially open at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The gallery will be open until 9 p.m. that day.
