To the editor:

The Shelter Inc., as one of this year’s recipients of the proceeds from the events surrounding St. Patrick’s Day, is deeply grateful to the members of the Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Committee.

The all-volunteer members of the St. Pat’s Committee are a remarkable and unique asset of the Lawrence community. Their energy and innovation have created a wonderful series of events that many people look forward to and have enjoyed over the past 18 years.

Best of all, in addition to all the fun and excitement created by the dart tournament, the pub quiz, the chili cook-off, the auction, T-shirt sales, the Shamrock Shuffle and the parade, over the years there have been hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for the benefit of the children of Douglas County. What a great concept!

The hard work of the members of the St. Pat’s Committee has not only provided a great boost to our finances but also provided a wonderful confirmation that the services of The Shelter are valued. We are very grateful for both. Thank you!
