To the editor:

Wednesday’s business section contained an article on the new “Extreme Christian” clothing shop in downtown Lawrence. Owner Lori Devins says “Kids like extreme sports and extreme snowboarding, and this is like extreme faith: We’re not afraid to shout it out and tell the world.”

Great! So what great motivational Christian slogans do we get? We get “My God can kick your god’s butt”? As if there wasn’t enough divisiveness and religious intolerance in the world already. If you want to say it loud and say it proud, how about some real Christian concepts like love and forgiveness.

We already have one “Extreme Christian” from Topeka spouting intolerance, and I think Fred Phelps has done more than enough damage to the fabric of our society and to the public’s perception of the Christian faith without any more help.
