St. Patrick’s Day revelry sweeps downtown

St. Patrick chasing animated snakes. Fairies with gossamer wings. And even a large green Octopus.

Those were just a few of more than 100 green or Irish-themed entries in today’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade through downtown Lawrence.

According to parade announcer Hank Booth, this year’s parade had the most-ever official entries, with 108. The warm, but windy weather drew out thousands of spectators, who lined Massachusetts Streets several people deep along the parade route.

The parade lasted about an hour, starting in South Park near 11th and Massachusetts Street and going north across the Kansas River Bridge into North Lawrence.
