Ides of March brings some sunshine to Lawrence

In Shakespeare’s ancient Rome, Julius Caesar was warned, “Beware the Ides of March.” But one of Lawrence’s own weather soothsayers had a much less foreboding forecast for March 15 here.

“There’s no severe weather in our forecast today,” says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “We don’t have any threat for precipitation. . . . I think we’ll see dim sunshine throughout the day.”

A few flakes of snow were seen overnight in some counties south of the Lawrence area, but nothing in northeast Kansas, Schack said. Most of the rain and snow is in Oklahoma and Texas and will move over toward Arkansas later today, she said.

Lawrence can expect some overcast skies, with a few peeks of sunshine through the day. The high was expected to climb to only 47, but the temperatue had exceeded that by mid afternoon.

At 2:45 p.m., Lawrence’s temperature at the 6News studio in downtown Lawrence was 53, with an southerly 13-mph wind. The average high for this date is 57.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to 28 by early Wednesday morning, Schack said. Wednesday’s high will be 53, with partly cloudy skies.

Thursday’s morning low will be 30, with the high climbing to 57 and breezy conditions with a south wind, she said.
