Traffic danger

To the editor:

This letter is concerning the newly built roundabouts throughout the city of Lawrence. Not only do I see these as a waste of the taxpayers’ dollars, but I also see them as dangerous as they do NOT slow their traffic as they were intended — quite the contrary — and pedestrians who are wanting to cross at these so-called intersections are sometimes needing to wait several minutes to cross. And what of people in wheelchairs, people with children?

I’ve recognized that the traffic is not slowing down for anybody, except, of course, for the occasional police officer that happens to drift by. Traffic is supposed to yield to pedestrians, but they don’t.

Before long, a child is likely to be hit at one of those intersections and it will be the city who will take the blame, but of course, it will be the people who pay the price!

Edward Jones,
