Another breezy afternoon ahead

If you’re into kite flying, you’ll find it easy to catch a breeze today — Lawrence is expected to have steady northwest winds 20 to 30 mph by noon, with some gusts up to 40 mph this afternoon

“Another windy day is in store for you,” said Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist. But it will be slightly less breezy than Thursday, which had gusts up to 44 mph.

At 8 a.m., the temperature was 29, with a northwesterly 7-mph wind making the wind chill 22 degrees.

Skies were starting off fairly sunny, but clouds will move in from the north this afternoon as the temperature rises to a high of 57 for Lawrence, Reith said. The average high for this date is 55 degrees.

Winds will die down tonight to between 8 and 18 mph from the west, with the low temperature dropping to 33 degrees by early Saturday morning.

Saturday’s skies will be partly cloudy, with southwest winds 8-12 mph and a high temperature of 64 degrees by late Saturday afternoon.

A cold front will move into the area overnight Saturday. Sunday morning’s low will be 34 degrees, with the high reaching 54 degrees by Sunday afternoon.

“We’re not anticipating any big chance of precipitation,” Reith said. Lawrence is expected to be dry for the next six days, he said.
