Temperatures rising only to the 40s

Don’t let all the low gray clouds fool you — you can leave your umbrella at home today.

“We’ve got plenty of clouds in the forecast, but we’re going to keep the precipitation out of the region,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “We did see some light snow overnight, but nothing was accumulating.”

There will be some breaks in the clouds this afternoon, helping to warm the temperature up to a high of 44 today. That’s 10 degrees below the average temperature for this date, Schack said.

At 8:30 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 35, with a northeast 8-mph wind making the wind chill 29.

Overnight, clouds will thicken up, helping to bring temperatures back down to 34 by early Thursday morning, she said.

“We have a rollercoaster of temperatures for the next few days,” Schack said. “As soon as we warm it up, we’ll start to cool it off.”

Thursday’s high will climb to 58, with westerly 10- to 15-mph winds gusting up to 30 mph, she said.

Friday’s morning low will drop to 30, with the high climbing to 50 by Friday afternoon, she said.
