Praise for LMH

To the editor:

There are always so many negatives in the letters section of the Journal-World, so we would like to make a positive statement.

Last week, my wife, Joan, had chest pain and dizziness and, fearing the worst, we called 911. Once we arrived at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and the emergency room, the team swung into action and they were already swamped with patients. We moved to the Bob Billings Cardiac Unit a bit later on and a fabulous nurse, “Rosie,” took over. The unit is wonderful, peaceful and provides a quiet place for heart consultation.

I thought a bit of Bob Billings, whom I knew from the time he played at KU and I was a cheerleader. How proud he would be of this unit named in his honor.

The next morning at 5 a.m. Rosie called to say Joan had been moved to ICU. When I got there, they told me she was going to have a heart cath, which showed artery blockage … so off we went again in an ambulance to St. Luke’s South, and, upon arrival, had angioplasty and all that goes with that. We came home two days later, but had to return to LMH for blood transfusions. Once again the team at LMH took over and removed a lot of anxiety we both had.

Thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff that helped us.

Pete and Joan Anderson,

Lawrence
