Crowded schools

To the editor:

My wife and I did our civic duty and voted Tuesday morning. While waiting to sign in, I heard the unmistakable sounds of young students learning how to play string instruments. I commented those students needed a soundproof room.

After voting, my wife informed me the students had no room and were standing in the hall. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw five students standing around their music stands in the hallway. Apparently they had no room much less a soundproof room to practice in.

The school board, who is running unopposed, should have been at the Woodlawn Elementary School Tuesday morning when they voted. Perhaps that’s somewhat unfair to the current school board, who currently has a $54 million-plus bond issue pending on April 5 plus a $9 million technology bond issue! Not sure if the bond issue will relieve the kind of overcrowding we saw Tuesday.
