Water boil advisory lifted for Eudora

Drinking water in Eudora got a little easier Friday afternoon when a boil advisory was lifted by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

For more than a day, city residents had been advised to boil water before drinking it.

The KDHE issued the boil advisory late Wednesday afternoon after Eudora city crews made an emergency repair of a city waterline. When crews shut down the water lines Wednesday some customers saw a drop in water pressure; service to others was completely cut off. The shutdown could make it easier for bacteria to enter the water line and contaminate water, said Eudora City Supt. Jim Boyer. The boil advisory was meant to safeguard against that possibility.

Fire destroys barn

A fire southwest of Clinton township Friday afternoon leveled a barn and left acres of pasture scorched.

Fire crews responded to the blaze at 891 East 300 Road around 4 p.m.

Property owner Bill Hodge said the flame started in his barn and then spread to the surrounding field. The flame skipped west across East 300 Road and into a pasture, where it spread quickly.

Hodge said the barn had no electrical power, and he was unsure of how the fire could have started. He estimated that he was out in the barn sometime between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and noticed nothing unusual.

The barn housed hay and some old car parts, he said.

Fire crews from four townships and from Osage County responded to the incident. Once the fire in the pasture had been contained and the barn fire had been brought under control, fire officials let the barn burn out.
