City passes not valid for sub-state
Lawrence High and Free State High season sports passes won’t be valid for admission to this week’s Class 6A sub-state basketball games.
Sub-state contests come under the auspices of the Kansas State High School Activities Assn., which has set ticket prices of $5 for adults and $4 for students.
Boys games are Wednesday night.
Free State, the No. 1 seed in the Leavenworth sub-state, will play host to winless Olathe Northwest. The Firebirds (17-3) spilled the Ravens, 61-48, two weeks ago. Tipoff will be 6 p.m. in order for fans to have time to watch the Kansas-Kansas State men’s game that will start at 8 p.m.
Lawrence High (13-7) is the No. 3 seed in the Leavenworth sub-state and will entertain Topeka High (5-15). Tipoff is 7 p.m. The Lions and Trojans did not meet during the regular season.
The girls’ openers in the Leavenworth sub-state will be Thursday night.
Like the LHS boys, the Lions’ girls team (11-8) is the No. 3 seed and will play host to Topeka High (8-12) in a first-round game. The Lions and Trojans haven’t played each other this season.
Free State (8-12) is the No. 5 seed and will travel to Leavenworth (11-9). The Pioneers spilled Free State, 58-42, last month in the FSHS gym.
First-round winners will go to Leavenworth to continue sub-state play — the boys Friday and the girls Saturday. The Class 6A state tournament will begin March 9 in Emporia.
