Commission discusses planning issues

Douglas County commissioners requested groups involved with planning issues develop a map to show potential sites for new industry and open spaces through 2011.

"I want to see us develop a fairly decent strategy," said Commission Chairman Charles Jones.

Commissioners met Monday with members of the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Department, the Douglas County Public Works Department, the Douglas County Economic Development, and ECO2 -- a county group charged with fostering development of industrial land and preservation of open space in the county.

The map the groups are drafting could be discussed Monday at a joint county and city commission meeting.
