Stunning stand

To the editor:

With regard to James Barnes’ letter of June 23, I too was absolutely stunned by Roger Boyd’s article in the June 21 Journal-World. I was stunned for completely the opposite reason, however. As the steward of Baker Wetlands and as a trained biologist, Professor Boyd surely knows better. A highway through the middle of the wetlands will not only affect the area that is being displaced but will certainly cause damage to the entire ecosystem. This is to say nothing of the damage that it will cause to the Native American community because of the historic significance of the wetlands.

Could it be that Professor Boyd’s opinion has been influenced by the big money and fancy research center that has been promised to Baker University if the road is built over the wetlands?

There should be no consideration of a trafficway north of the Wakarusa River!
