Fix streets first

To the editor:

I am reading that those roundabouts are continuing to plague our city. It seems like every time I pick up the paper, there is another article about one being constructed in another part of our city.

I drive home from work down streets riddled with potholes. Up and down those bumps I go. I keep waiting for someone to repair the streets. Then I hear yet another expensive roundabout is being built.

Hello! Repair the streets first! Then look into building yet another “traffic-calming” roundabout. I will find it easier to deal with those dang “traffic-calmers” if and when the potholes are repaired.

Sure, we want our city to look pretty. But if you have to drive down a street riddled with potholes to get to a “pretty” roundabout, I think the city will come out looking foolish.

Give me a break. Fix the streets first. We don’t have the money to throw away on these so-called traffic-calming devices. People I have spoken with say they get through them as quickly as possible, even racing through them if necessary.

Fix the broken streets first. Please!

I wish I could find out why these roundabouts have been showing up so much. Then I would want to remove the source of the problem. Some of the potholes that are not being fixed seem large enough for a family to move into.

Fix the streets first!
