School spending
To the editor:
Kris Kobach had it right. Mike Hoeflich had it wrong.
It is simple, the Kansas Supreme Court implemented a back-door tax raise. How else is the Legislature going to come up with the money, hold fund-raising drives?
How long have we been shoveling taxpayers’ money into our schools, and they still aren’t doing well, and that is evident by their need for millions more.
Where is the money going once it is given to our schools?
The teachers are the ones getting hurt in all this. All you have to do is look up what their average salary is in Lawrence; it is reprehensible.
I am willing to bet that if the Legislature raises taxes on us and schools are getting more money, the teachers salaries will rise very slightly, if at all.
I have two children with autism who are getting services at school. You have to fight to get quality services for them.
My point is, why? Where is all this money going? By now, all Kansas schools should have adequate funding/services for children with autism since it is a growing epidemic. There are only a few school districts that do.
This isn’t about shoving more money in schools but about responsibility in spending what they have already been given and requiring them to give an account to the taxpayers as to how their money is being spent.
