No study needed

To the editor:

Another study on a road. Why am I not surprised? It seems our roads must be created by weathermen or physicians, because it seems they can’t get it right the first time and they always need to do another study.

So now they think the bypass road out by the sports fields needs a study. Is there anyone out there who thinks maybe a stoplight and a 65 mph zone don’t fit together very well? Maybe we should ask a brain surgeon.

On the other hand, maybe it’s just bad drivers. Thousands of cars pass that intersection each day. There have only been a handful of accidents. Accidents are created by people not paying attention. However, I am sure the study will be performed.

I have four solutions for the intersection. The cheapest would be to put up “reduced speed ahead” signs. Go from 65 to 45 to 30 by the time you get to the stoplight. OR, add a police car to the side of the road. People tend to slow down when they see that. The third option would be to put another stoplight up a quarter mile from the real intersection. If people stop at the fake intersection, they won’t be going fast enough to miss the real one.

The fourth option, heaven forbid, would be to put up another one of those stupid roundabouts. It seems the city is in love with them. Let’s put one there at that intersection. Since it would cost the most, that’s the most logical choice. I guess I have one other option. Don’t do anything. Just ask the drivers to pay attention to what they are doing. It would save the most lives.
