Education value

To the editor:

It is time for the Kansas Legislature to do what is best for Kansas children by making sure that they have access to good schools. Without them, Kansas children will not be prepared to enter the work force. A good school system is key for future job/economic growth for the state of Kansas.

Republicans who claim the court has overstepped its authority should quit playing political games with our kids’ future and find a way to work together. The unanimous decision by the Kansas Supreme Court is not a case of judicial activism but rather a case of the court doing what is best for Kansas children.

Legislators need to do what is best for Kansas schools and stop acting like victims.

As far as taxes are concerned, I have no problem supporting public schools, virtual schools and higher education. Paying teachers what they deserve after spending five days per week and sometimes more is not too much to ask.

Reading, writing and arithmetic are important. However, no more so than the study of evolution, art, music, dance, foreign languages, computer science, industrial design and wood shop.

Education provides the best bang for my tax dollar.
