Please explain

To the editor:

Ed White’s letter to the editor regarding the Kansas University-Oklahoma University football game to be held at Arrowhead is right on. When I inquired of the KU athletic director’s office why such a move was being made I received the preposterous reply that it was being done “so our KU fans in Kansas City would have a chance to see a KU football game.”

Please help me understand that answer. When was the last time there was a sellout for a KU football game? How do Lew Perkins and his on-staff relatives justify taking upwards of 40,000 people out of Lawrence for a weekend? Does the economy of Kansas City need to be pumped up?

My son is the operator of a small business in Lawrence. Like many other small business owners he looks forward to football weekends and the business they generate. And how about giving away the home field advantage in such an important game? When the stadium at Arrowhead has more red shirts than blue shirts in the stands, what will Big Lew’s response be to that predicament.
