Human interest?

To the editor:

I wasn’t sure if I’d opened up a copy of The National Enquirer or the Lawrence Journal-World on Tuesday morning when I saw the news story about the amputee who kept his foot on the front porch of an East Lawrence neighborhood house for viewing. Since when does a story like this warrant front page coverage – with pictures? I was surprised that we weren’t “treated” to a picture of the foot, albeit we did “get” to see the bucket.

It seems like even a slow day could have warranted a better human interest story than that. If I’d wanted that kind of story first thing in the morning I would have bought The National Enquirer at Dillons on my way to work.
