Why is it?

To the editor:

Why is it that when you pull up to a stop sign, there usually is an SUV, van or pickup that pulls up beside you and pulls out so far ahead of you that you can’t see traffic?

Speaking of SUVs, vans or pickups, why is it that so many of them can’t seem to park between the lines in any given parking space?

Why is it that there is always one person at a four-way stop who wants to direct traffic? They would rather sit there and wave people on as to take their turn and move out of the way.

And speaking of four-way stops; why is it that anyone sharp enough to get a driver’s license can’t follow the rules of a four-way stop?

Why is it that just when you think you’ve found an alternate route around street construction, they begin working on it the next day?

Why is it we can afford roundabouts but can’t afford to fix potholes?

And speaking of roundabouts, why is it that some aren’t big enough for fire trucks to go around?

Why is it that you have to wait for three more cars to go through after the light has turned red?

Why is it that the city hasn’t changed the speed limit signs on Clinton Parkway to match the real speed limit of 60?

Why is it that in spite of all this, Lawrence is still a great place to live?
