Salvage mission

To the editor:

My 3-year-old “recycling assistant” and I just returned from a rescue drive around our neighborhood.

We loaded our car with dishes, pots and pans, drinking glasses, and an iron and ironing board, all in good condition, and all destined for the landfill. Instead, we’ll drop them at Goodwill.

As everyone knows, it’s common in Lawrence to see all sorts of interesting objects sitting on curbs, which is great if a Dumpster diver carts the stuff home, but most of it ends up in the garbage truck.

Please take the time to drop usable items at one of the several thrift shops/social service agencies in town. Or, use the excellent Lawrence Freecycle service online to give things away.

A little personal inconvenience, a great benefit to the community.

Sandra Pellegrini,

Lawrence
