Douglas County Senior Services needs volunteers to fill two positions: 911 Cell Phones for Seniors coordinator and Senior Meals delivery driver. The 911 Cell Phones for Seniors coordinator position will entail 2 to 3 hours per week of volunteer time spent organizing and distributing donated cell phones to Douglas County senior citizens. Senior Meals delivery drivers commit to delivering meals at least one day per week from around 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All drivers must have their own vehicle and a valid driver’s license.

Immediate volunteer needs

¢ Lawrence Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers to assist with picking up cans from various collection sites in the area. Volunteers can pick up cans from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Most routes take approximately 2 hours. Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle that can be used for can pickup. Interested volunteers should call Mary at Lawrence Habitat for Humanity, 832-0777.

¢ Meals on Wheels seeks volunteers to fill the positions of meal room supervisor and regular and substitute drivers. Meal room supervisor opportunities are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital to assist drivers picking up meals by making sure that the meals are in order and the proper number of beverages are sent with each driver. Substitute and regular drivers are needed to deliver meals for one hour or more each week from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Drivers are welcome to bring their children on their meal route. Training is provided.

¢ The Community Blood Center, 1410 Kasold Drive, needs volunteers to assist with a blood drive event on Aug. 12. Volunteers are needed to serve hot dogs, chips and soda to individuals who have donated blood. Volunteer shifts are available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older.
