Audio Reader needs garden caretakers

Several garden volunteers are needed to assist with maintenance of the Sensory Garden at Audio Reader. The goal of the garden is to provide an outdoor environment that is fully accessible to the blind and visually impaired. Volunteers will help with watering and tending the garden as needed Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. A brief training session will be provided.
Immediate volunteer needs
¢ Meals on Wheels seeks volunteers to fill the positions of meal room supervisor and regular and substitute drivers. Meal room supervisor opportunities are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital to assist drivers picking up meals by making sure that the meals are in order and the proper number of beverages are sent with each driver. Substitute and regular drivers are needed to deliver meals for one hour or more each week from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Drivers are welcome to bring their children on their meal route. Training is provided.
¢ The Douglas County AIDS Project seeks volunteers in all aspects of the agency’s programs and services, including fundraising, public education and outreach efforts, office assistance and providing support for people living with HIV. Prospective volunteers are required to attend a two-hour volunteer orientation. Volunteer orientation is provided once a month. The next volunteer orientation will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.. July 21. For more information, or to register for orientation, call DCAP at 843-0040.
¢ Health Care Access, 1920 Moodie Road, needs a volunteer to maintain landscaping during the summer. Health Care Access facilitates access to health services for Douglas County residents with limited financial means who are not covered by private or governmental insurance programs. The project will take approximately two hours every two weeks for the remainder of the summer. For more information, contact Nikki King at 841-5760, ext. 204.
¢ The Community Blood Center, 1410 Kasold Drive, needs volunteers to assist with a blood drive event on Aug. 12. Volunteers are needed to serve hot dogs, chips and soda to individuals who have donated blood. Volunteer shifts are available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older.
