A Lawrence staff member with the KU Army ROTC program recently received a national award for her daily efforts.

Cindy R. Brinkley of Lawrence was named U.S. Army Cadet Command’s “Supply Technician of the Year” for 2005, a statement from the parent organization of the officers reserved training corps said.

Alabama couple arrested in ’97 death

El Dorado – An Alabama couple has been arrested in connection with the 1997 disappearance of a Butler County man.

Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy said Friday that Jerry Trussell, 44, and Tamara Trussell, 38, of Trinity, were arrested Thursday and face first-degree murder charges in the death of 27-year-old Franklin Harrod Jr.

An extradition hearing for the couple, who were living in Trinity, Ala., is scheduled for Monday.

Harrod was last seen on July 27, 1997, when he told his pregnant wife he was stepping out briefly, leaving behind his car and wallet. The couple had two children.

Investigators found no evidence of foul play and searched the nearby Walnut River for his body but found nothing.

Murphy wouldn’t say what led investigators to the Trussells, how Harrod was killed or what the motive was.
