Serving needs

To the editor:

Lawrence and Douglas County is a wonderful community to live and work in. We are a diverse community and we have opportunities to participate in art, theater, music, sports and educational activities of all kinds. Our community also cares about its members and offers a wide range of support services. But sometimes those with the resources to help can overlook the needs of others.

The Lawrence Amateur Golf Assn. (LAGA) and its leadership are to be highly praised for helping meet some of those needs head on. For three consecutive years, LAGA has held golf tournaments which provide funding for the support services for kids and adults provided by Headquarters Counseling Center. LAGA’s City Open Tournament raised $1,200 for these services. And additional funds will be raised in September through their Men’s Senior City Open and Women’s Open Tournaments.

We greatly appreciate LAGA’s help in keeping our free counseling and information services available 24/7 for anyone in need. And we encourage other organizations and businesses to follow LAGA’s lead in making sure this community takes care of its members.
