Seventh and Kentucky intersection reopens

The intersection at Seventh and Kentucky streets is now open after being closed for more than two months.

City crews opened the intersection late Wednesday afternoon, relieving one of several traffic bottlenecks created by construction in the downtown area.

The project added a traffic signal to the intersection and relocated the access point for the post office’s mail drop off box. The access point previously was off of Seventh Street. It now is off of Kentucky Street. City engineers said the change should reduce the potential for accidents.

Work began on the project on April 18. The project had a total cost of $260,437. The Kansas Department of Transportation funded $160,000 of the project’s cost.
