Watch duty

To the editor:

My mother (who is 82 and has come to live with us) and I read the paper together each morning. For fun we often read the classifieds and try to find the perfect job for us to do together.

Mom’s in a wheelchair, so the job would have to be very specialized to fit her needs, with me being her assistant. Alas, we never found anything that would fit the bill until recently. Unfortunately, we have never seen this particular job offered in any of your want ads and wonder if you might know where we can sign up.

We call it the “watcher guy” job. We live off of Kasold, which is currently all torn up and have also observed the work on Massachusetts, Sixth Street, etc. At every job site it seems there is always one guy working and five or six “watcher guys”!

This would be the perfect job for Mom and me! We’d set up an umbrella, have a pitcher of iced tea and some snacks, and be set for the day. We’d also get paid lots of money. Mom would no longer feel guilty about being part of the new “leisure class” drawing on her Social Security. Perfect! Mom is getting tired of sitting around but not getting paid for it. Maybe there also is work for some of Mom’s friends over at Drury Place and Pioneer Ridge!
