Most offices, services closed today for holiday

There won’t be too many people working today on the July 4 holiday.

All federal, state, city and county government offices will be closed in Lawrence and elsewhere. That includes the courts.

Both Kansas University and Haskell Indian Nations University will be closed.

The U.S. Post Office will deliver only Express Mail today. All UPS and FedEx operations will be stopped.

The Lawrence Transit System, also known as The T, will be closed for the holiday; neither fixed route nor paratransit buses will run.

There will be no grass and leaf collection today, and grass and leaves will be collected with the regular trash the rest of the week. No other changes are planned in the trash route schedules. Commercial collection will be completed as scheduled.

Downtown Lawrence parking meters will be free today.

Liquor stores are allowed to open.

The Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt., will be closed today.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels will make deliveries today.

Douglas County Senior Services Inc. and the Lawrence Senior Center, however, will be closed. All clubs, classes and the noon meal will be canceled at the center, 745 Vt. Meals will not be served at the following locations: Babcock Place, Edgewood Place, Lecompton, Eudora and Baldwin. No home meals will be delivered. Bus 62 services will be canceled.

All city recreation centers will be closed today, and there will be no recreation classes, special events or adult and youth sports.

There will be no Summer Playground, Mini Munchkin Camp, Unified Day Camp or Nature Summer Camps.

Prairie Park Nature Center will be closed today. Eagle Bend Golf Course will be open and is accepting tee times.

The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Ky., and Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be open from 1 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

The Journal-World will be delivered today, and the circulation office will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
